Former Mayor Has Car Vandalized
Wheels and Rims Stolen
By Cary Anderson, Police Reporter

Culver City Mayor Sandra Levin has gotten a first-hand view of crime by becoming a victim herself. Culver City Police officers responded to her house on Cattaraugus Avenue in east Culver City on Sunday July 30 after Levin found her 1996 platinum colored Volvo up on jacks with all four tires and rims gone.

Levin said that she parked on the street in front of her home the night before. The next morning at about 7:00 a.m. Levin discovered the theft. Nothing else on the vehicle had been disturbed.
Levin told police that the wheels and tires that come on the Volvo model vehicle she had were a custom type. She also believed her vehicle may have been specially targeted due to that fact. she had not seen or heard anything unusual. The four special edition wheels were valued at $2,000. The value of the tires are unknown. Culver City Police ID services conducted a search for fingerprints or other evidence that met with negative results.
Levin was one of several people that week to have vehicle-related crimes committed against them. Later the same day, a 50-year-old woman who lives on Sawtelle Blvd. in the west area of Culver City, was the victim of a similar crime. The woman told police that on Sunday July 30 at approximately 9: p.m.. , she had parked her blue 2000 Dodge Ram in her parking area in the alley behind her residence. When she returned early the next morning at 5:40 a.m. she was shocked to discover that unknown suspect(s) had stolen all four tires and rims. Unlike Ms Levin’s vehicle which was left on jack stands, this victim’s vehicle was left standing on several large rocks.
The woman said her bedroom window faces the alley, but neither she, nor her husband, heard anything during the night. The total value of the four chrome rims and tires is set at about $2,000. If the suspects from either crime are caught they will face felony charges.
